A character trait that both Penelope and Odysseus share is cleverness. Typically, Odysseus is considered to be the one that is clever. Penelope is clever because when is forced to choose between the suitors, she says that she will marry, but not until she has finished weaving a shroud for Laertes. Everyday she adds a little more to the weaving. However, she has been unweaving it every night, and the suitors are none the wiser! Another quality the Penelope possesses is her being loyal to her husband, even though has been away for 17 years.

In Homer, Penelope and Odysseus are a portrayed as a devoted married couple.

They have similar methods of defending themselves against enemies.

Both of them are loyal to each other and are strong-willed.

Odysseus and Penelope are also portrayed as smart. Penelope for instance is able to deceive her suitors for 7 years to avoid getting married.

Odysseus on the other hand is able to use tricks to get past many obstacles such as Circe, the Sirens, the Two monster sisters at the rocks, etc.
