actually now a days rolaid solutions are not used as buffer. They were acting as antacids. But now they are not used frequently in order to act as a good antacid it has to maintain a proper pH but it cannot maintain that pH required to neutralise the excess acid in stomach
Therefore it is not acting as a good buffer
Therefore it is not acting as a good buffer
Rolaids solution is an antacid that can neutralize stomach acid. The chemical composition of the antacid is calcium carbonate ([tex]CaCO_{3}[/tex]) and magnesium hydroxide([tex]Mg(OH)_{2}[/tex]. So, this rolaid solution being alkaline (basic) in nature can just neutralize the excess acid present. It can act as a buffer by absorbing excess [tex]H^{+}[/tex]ions and maintaining the pH upon the addition of acid. But in a broader sense, Rolaids solution cannot act as a buffer in all conditions as it can only absorb the excess acid but has no effect when excess base is added to a solution.
