Fugitive Slave Act was racist in identification of the slaves; white planters who are trying to catch their slaves would send out the information of the slave (mainly the appearance) and the "hunter" would have to match the description.

Dred Scott case dealt with slaves not being a citizen, therefore remain as property no matter where they go. (The 14th Amendment resolves this issue efficiently)

Compromise of 1850- popular sovereignty- the people in the newly acquired states decide if it is a slave or free state; Bleeding Kansas as a result
