Fractions can be said and written in word form. To get the word form of a faction you should write the numerator (the top number), add a hyphen and then spell out the denominator (the bottom number).
The word form of the fraction 5/10 for example is five-tenths.
This word form can help us to write the decimal number which represents the faction : the tenths tells us on which place after the decimal point the value should be written, and the value is 5. So, the decimal number of 5/10 is 0.5.
Tenths corresponds to the first place after the decimal point, hundreds to the second place after the point, thousands to the third place...
Fractions can be written in decimal form. For example, when the fraction is 5/4, it is read as 'five-fourths'. To find it's decimal form, you just have to divide the numerator 5 by the denominator 4. With the help of the calculator, you would get a decimal form of the answer which is 1.25.
