James spent $(2y2 + 6). He bought notebooks that each cost $(y2 − 1).
The expression to find the number of notebooks James bought is .

If y = 3, James bought notebooks. the first part i got correct but the second part only gives me 3 9 and 24 as answers but the correct answer is 6 so what answer do i put?

Respuesta :

James spent = 2y² + 6

Coast of each notebook = $ (y² -1)

Number of notebooks he bought?

Let n is the number of notebooks he bought then,

$(y² - 1) x n = $ (2y² + 6)

n= 2y² + 6 / y² – 1

Now y = 3, so putying the value of y, we get

n = (2(3)² + 6 ) / (3² -1)

n = (2(9) + 6) / (9 -1)

n = 18 + 6 / 8

n = 24 / 8

n = 3

so he bought 3 notebooks, for the price of $8 per notebook and he spent total money $24.

if y = 3, these are the correct answers.
