Plan and write an Argumentative Essay based on your close reading and
analysis of several relevant sources-a newspaper article, a blog, and a magazine article
-and follow a step-by-step approach to stating a claim, supporting your claim with
evidence, and organizing your writing to be clear and logical. Then use what you have learned to
independently develop an Argumentative Essay responding to the question: "Can you make real friends on
the Internet?" Your argument should include a clear claim, logical reasons, and evidence that is relevant
and sufficient.
a.) Provide essential background information and compose a strong thesis statement.
b.) Develop your argument with details, description, facts and statistics, expert testimony, and explanation
and analysis that connect to your thesis.
c.) Address the most common or strongest counterclaim and provide evidence against it.
d.) Conclude logically by restating your thesis and composing a strong concluding sentence (e.g. call to
action, prediction,
suggestion, opinion, generalization/ comparison, etc.).
