to show that the gods are not to blame for everything that happen to humans
Answer: to show that gods are not to blame for human misfortunes because men bring their own sorrows upon themselves
Explanation: At the beginning of "The Odyssey" by Homer, Zeus is gathered with all the gods at Mount Olympus. He says that men often blame the gods for their misfortunes. But, it is they who bring their own sorrows upon themselves. He then tells the story of Aegisthus. Aegisthus was the lover of Clytemnestra. Although being warned by the gods, he killed her husband. When Clytemnestra's son came of age, he killed both Aegisthus and her.
