Sign language is a language, as it possess the most important characteristics of language: it serves communication, and everything that can be said in other languages, such as English, can be expressed in sign language too.

Well I'm pretty sure that the word gives us the answer, as previously learned any signs, sounds, writing, or anything that anyone else understands is a form of communication. Language is communication and as I stated above I think that sign would be a language because people understand what they mean so Yes sign language is a language.
