The x and y scalar component of the displacement vector is 171.18 m and 55.62 m respectively

This question can be solved using the techneques of finding the x and y component of a vector

Vectors: These are quantity that can be measure both in magnitude and direction. E.g velocity, displement, acceleration, Force etc.

  • The formular for x component of a vector is given as

x = Rcos∅................ Equation 1

  • Where R = magnitude of the vector, ∅ = angle of inclination of the vector with the horizontal.
  • From the question,
  • Given: R = 810 m, ∅ = 18°
  • Substitute these values into equation 1

       x = 180cos18

        x = 180(0.951)

        x = 171.18 m

  • Similarly, for the y component

         y = Rsin∅............... Equation 2

  • Substitute these values above into equation 2

        y = 180sin18

        y = 180(0.309)

       y = 55.62 m.

Hence, the x and y scalar component of the displacement vector is 171.18 m and 55.62 m respectively
