She led the country from 1979 until 1990. In her tem, she decreased the influence of trade unions, making certain industries private and scaling back public benefits and has changed the terms of political debate.  She is also known as the “Iron Lady” as she fought against Soviet communism  to continue having control of the Falkland Islands.
