In my opinion, it does make him less of a hero. In the 2007 movie, Beowulf decides not to kill Grendel's mother, but is rather seduced by her beauty and offerings. In the poem, of course, he kills her, and protects the kingdom by being a hero. When he didn't kill her in the movie, he gave in to his lust and greed, which aren't really heroic qualities.
The way Beowulf giving in temptation of Grendel’s mother make him less of a hero because he has given off in temptation in which a heroic person does not symbolize of as a hero is someone who set as a better example amongst citizens or people in which Beowulf has shown.
