Green Chemistry consists of environmentally friendly, sustainable chemicals and processes whose use results in reduced waste, safer outputs, and reduced or eliminated pollution and environmental damage. Green chemistry encourages innovation and promotes the creation of products that are both environmentally and economically sustainable. The use and production of these chemicals may involve reduced waste products. Green chemistry is a highly effective approach to pollution prevention because it applies innovative scientific solutions to real world environmental situations. The guidelines for a “Green” product are: reduction or prevention of chemical hazards, must be designed to be less hazardous to human health and the environment, use less hazardous reagents and feedstocks, must be less energy and material dependant, use feedstocks derived from annually renewable resources, and must be designed to be recyclable or reusable.
