There were both negative and positive effects of Japan's self-imposed isolation.
Negative effect: They were closed off from the world. They did not trade, this meant they had limited exotic resources.
Positive effect: They were safe. Since they were closed off from the rest of the world, they didn't have as many threats to their region (until later on).
I hope this helps!

peace and prosperity, economic depression,The effect was they had no trade with the Europeans because of the Spanish started converting the Japanese to catholic. The shogun who ruled in 1630s worried about the foreigners in japan. He learned they made a settlement in the Philippine's. SO he ordered all Christians to leave the country and promised any Japanese person who left to be killed upon their return. so for the next 200 years japan isolated themselves form the rest of the worlds contact Although Japan managed to avoid direct warfare with its Asian neighbors, and escaped two invasions by the Mongols, Japan was not always a peaceful country.
