In 1835, shortly after his release from prison, the prophet Matthias (under the pseudonym Joshua the Jewish Minister) traveled to the Mormon camp in Kirtland, Ohio where he met the prophet Joseph Smith. Their meeting started well; they dined together, Joseph smith shared his early prophetic encounters, and had Matthias preach to his congregation. The meeting however ended in very ill-disposed terms when they had a disagreement on reincarnation and the transmigration of the soul. The two prophets openly denounced each other as under satanic influences, and according to reports, Joseph Smith ordered that Matthias be cast out of the camp like the devil in bodily shape.
