Jessica and Raphael are saving money for concert tickets. Each friend starts with an amount and also saves a specific amount each week.

Jessica came up with the following equation to show the total, y, she has saved at the end of each week, x.

y = 10x + 20



Raphael created a table to show the total he has saved at the end of each week.

After saving for a certain number of weeks, Jessica and Raphael will have each saved the same amount of money. How much money will they have each saved then?

According to the question ,They will each have saved $70.Jessica is saves at a faster rate than Raphael.

The rate at which Jessica sum up her savings = $4 every week more than Raphael adds upto his savings

  • The formula for Jessica’s savings to be

         y = 10x + 20

         Jessica  saves at the rate of $10every week.

  • The formula for Raphael’s savings to be

         y = 6x +40

       Raphael’s saves at the rate of $6 every week.

Boths savings when gets equal we get,

      10x + 20 = 6x + 40         ∵now we substract  20 from both the side

      10x = 6x + 20                 ∵here we  subtract 6x from both the side

       4x = 20                         ∵From both the side, Divide by 4

        x = 5

Both of their savings will get Equal after 5 weeks.

After 5 weeks,

      Jessica will have saved

           y = 10×5 + 20  

           y = 50 + 20

           y = $70

Raphael who has saved $70 but Jessica saves at a faster rate of  $10every week than Raphael at the rate of $4 every week

Therefore, Given Red line in the graph shows that Jessica starts with the amount $20 and  After 5 weeks, she caught up to Raphael, who has also $70.
