The industrial revolution brought about an explosion in the capacity to manufacture identical goods. This made it possible for items which had once been relatively rare to become quite commonplace. A good example is the clock. Before the advent of industrial processes, each part of each clock had to be manufactured by hand by a master clocksmith. Industrial processes allowed the parts to be mass manufactured and assembled, which made clocks much more common and affordable.
