Add all the numbers in the list then divide it by how many numbers are in that list.       Ex. 5,8,1,4 Would be: 5+8+1+4= 18 divided by 4 which is 4.5
To find the mean of a data set, you need to take all the data in the set and add them together.

Example: Sarah scored these numbers on her midterms every quarter: 89, 97, 76, & 62. What is the mean of her test scores?

So, add all the scores together.

89 + 97 + 76 + 62 = 324

After adding the scores together, you need to divide the sum by the number of numbers in the data set.

324 ÷ 4 = 81

So, the mean, or average of her test scores is 81.

I hope I helped :)
