The Treaty of Versailles included provisions to divide both Germany and Austria-Hungary into several smaller nations, option A. The Treaty of Versailles was a peace document signed at the end of World War I, on 28 June 1919 between the Allies (Britain, France, and America) and Germany. As for the terms of the treaty, Germany's population was reduced since part of the territory was taken away. Alsace and Lorraine were returned to France, Eupen and Malmedy were given to Belgium, Northern Schleswig to Denmark, Hultschin to Czechoslovakia, West Prussia, Posen and Upper Silesia to Poland. Germany had to return Russia land taken that was made into new states: Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. Moreover, Germany was forbidden to unite with Austria. Austria-Hungary after signing another peace treaty became two separate nations.
