Vassals
A vassal refers to a person who was permitted to
acquire land on the grounds that he offered allegiance and homage to the nobles
of society in return. Nobles granted the use of
farmlands to vassals in exchange for vassals’ services such as political
support, serving as military soldiers and paying taxes.
