The Implicit Association Test (IAT) measures C. STEREOTYPES, and permits a more accurate assessment of people's attitudes towards members of different groups. Stereotypes are the belief that most members of a group have a certain characteristic, for example that women are nurturing. The IAT measures the strength of associations between concepts (i.e. gay people) and stereotypes (fashionable). An explicit stereotype is one you are aware of and talk openly about (men make good engineers). Implicit stereotypes are ones that you are not even aware that you have (Hispanics commit more crimes than other races). The IAT helps you see these associations that you have, and it measures how strong these attitudes are in your belief system.
