Hey there!
For the left side, we are going to use the distributive property, which means:
a(b+c) = ab+ac
Therefore, we have:
4y + 8 = 32
Subtract 8 from both sides.
4y = 24
Divide both sides by 4 to get:
y = 6
I hope this helped you! :)

So you are solving for 'y'
You would follow this order so first look for Parentheses. You have some so you multiple 4 times everything in the parentheses.
[tex]4(y + 2)[/tex]
4 and why can't really combine so you would just have 4y.
Then you would multiply 4 by 2 which is 8.
Your new equation should be...
[tex]4y + 8 = 32[/tex]
You do not have exponents so the next thing to do is try to get 'Y' by itself.
You would minus 8 from both sides to cancel it out and your new equation should be...
[tex]4y = 24[/tex]
The last thing to do is devide by 4 on both sides.
The answer will be
[tex]y = 6[/tex]
