Pilots often take advantage of the JET STREAMS, which are high-speed winds.

Jet Streams are high-speed winds which are between 7km and 16km above the Earth's surface. They are narrow belts of high-speed winds that blows from west to east.

There are two main jet streams, they are polar jet stream and the subtropical jet stream.

Both jet streams are present in the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere. Polar jet streams are called such because they only form in the coldest parts of the world while the Subtropical jet streams are found near the area of the equator.
