When the ice melts, it changes from a solid state to a liquid state.

When it is heated, the kinetic energy of the molecules that compose it, increases, the energy that the ice received, is transformed into potential energy and the content of kinetic energy stays constant. This causes a variation in the order of the ice molecules, which have a fixed position when the matter is in solid state.
In terms of energy the ice absorbs energy causing the molecules of water to have more kinetic and potential energy, changing their configuration from a solid to a liquid.
