Some arctic species like the arctic fox (pictured above) grow white fur only in winter. In summer, it is a brown color. What explanation best describes why animats like the arctic fox have this seasonal response in order to survive?

The best explanation is survival of the fittest. During the winter they go white so they blend in to reduce the risks of being seen by predators.
