While multicellular organisms are more advanced than unicellular organisms, this does not mean that multicellular organisms are more successful. In fact, the number of unicellular or colonial organisms far oustrips that of multicellular organisms. Think for example of bacteria. A single milliliter of sea water can contain 1 millions bacterial cells.
