A new study - on rats - has shown that isolation can accelerate the growth of breast cancer. Conversely, it also means that staying connected to others can slow it down.
When female rats are separated from their group soon after birth and raised in isolation, they are particularly susceptible to stress. They also develop three times more breast cancers than females who live in a group, and their tumors are bigger and more aggressive.
Cancer becomes more common when a person has been socially isolated.

Cancer is induced by prolonged exposure of skin to U.V. radiation. They often occur on the head, neck and direct exposed areas. They are common to light skinned people and elderly because of the presence of less melanin to shield the keratinocytes DNA from radiation.
Cancer is classify into three types based on the epidermal cell in which they appears,
1. Basal cell carcinoma – They are commonly occurring and least deadly type of carcinoma which arises from stratum basale cells and run into the dermis. They appear as a small and shiny bump. Central depression and a beaded “pearly edge” are formed when these bump enlarge.
2. Squamous cell carcinoma – This type of carcinoma arises from keratinocytes of the stratum spinosum cells. First they appear as lesions that have raised, reddened, and scaly appearance and later form an ulcer (concave) with raised edges. They are also least deadly type of carcinoma. If neglected than it metastasizes to the lymph nodes and can be fatal.
3. Melanoma – This is the most deadly type of carcinoma because it metastasizes quickly and unresponsive to chemotherapy. They arise from the melanocytes often present in a pre existing moles which are slightly different in appearance than normal mole which has uniform color and even contour.
Basal and squamous cell skin cancer are least deadly and can be cured if detected in developing stage with chemotherapy whereas, melanoma is treated by surgical excision, radiation therapy or destruction by heat and cold.
