The problems that Anson Jones saw with the annexation of
Texas was that Mexico did not recognize Texas’ independence and that means they
were still at war with Mexico. If the United States were to annex Texas, they
too would be drawn to the war. He feared
that if this were to happen, Britain might also get involve and worse, side
with Mexico. Apart from that, there was
strong opposition from the northern politicians because they feared that if
Texas were admitted into the U.S., it would become another slave state.
