The Salem Witch Hunt and the McCarthy Era had a lot in
common. Both periods were characterized
to be in fear of certain force. In
rumors of villagers practicing witchcraft spread fear and panic among the
settlers. The Cold War brought fear of
communism spreading to the United States and as well as other parts of the
world. Both events played on people’s
fear and suspicion. As a result people
were spied upon by governments in both eras.
Many were convicted and killed in the Salem Witch Hunts. The McCarthy
era saw the surveillance and arrest of several American citizens whose
lives were destroyed by accusations of being a communist supporter or spy.
