The forefather is paddling or beating the 1920s generation because the 1920s generation is having the attitude of discontentment although he has everything the world can offer. He was tempted by the material things but then still unsatisfied with what he has. The forefather just wanted the 1920s generation to be like him most likely thrifty, economical, and prudent.
The criticism that the cartoonist is making about the 1920 generation is the fact that they were not a contented people.
The consumerism of the 1920s
The generation in this time period was one that loved to consume a lot of products. They did not have the savings culture that they should have imbibed.
They spent a lot of money on items that they did not really need for the sake of enjoyment.
