Which of the following statements are true of the discriminant?

The discriminant is b2 – 4ac in the quadratic formula.
The discriminant is the denominator in the quadratic formula.
The discriminant is the radicand of the quadratic formula.
The discriminant is the value under the radical in the quadratic formula.
The discriminant is the value in front of the radical in the quadratic formula.

Respuesta :

Statements 1, 3, and 4 are true.

_____
Statements 3 and 4 say the same thing: "radicand" ≡ "value under the radical".
the ones you can throw out are
B (second one down) E

By a very slim margin (like the thickness of a piece of paper), you could take out C. Technically, it is the value under the root sign which means you find b^2 and subtract 4ac from it. Your teacher may not agree. It is a very thin definition.

So what are we left with? Unfortunately A and D are both correct.
Answer AD and 1/2 of C <<<< answer.
