Meander is the term used to describe the sinuous flow of water in rivers. Meanders are usually formed in the middle or the lower course of the river. In the lower course, deposition can cause the neck of the meander to become cut off from the main channel leaving a structure that contains water. This feature is called an OXBOW LAKE.
