Growth hormone is secreted from anterior pituitary gland and decrease in the secretion of this hormone leads to dwarfism.
What is dwarfism?
Dwarfism is the state in which a person may have a small stature.
There are many reasons behind this condition, one of the reasons is deficiency of growth hormone or somatotropin during childhood stage which is released from anterior pituitary gland.
Depending on causative agent, two most common types of dwarfism are observed such as achondroplastic and pituitary dwarfism.
Achondroplasia is caused by specific gene mutation where the person is suffered from orthopedic problems and have short spinal column and short limbs.
Pituitary dwarfism is due to lack of growth hormone production in the body, leads to short stature.
The possible reason behind the pituitary problem is less exposure to oxygen during prenatal period or other medical problem.
Hence, abnormally reduced somatic growth (dwarfism) is due to less secretion of growth hormone by anterior pituitary gland.
