To solve this we are going to use the formula for the area of triangle: [tex]A= \frac{1}{2} bh[/tex]
where
[tex]A[/tex] is the area of the triangle
[tex]b[/tex] is the base of the triangle
[tex]h[/tex] is the height of our triangle

We can infer from the picture of our triangular flag that the base of the triangle is (3x)cm, so [tex]b=(3x)cm[/tex]. We can also infer that the height of the triangle is (4x)cm, so [tex]h=(4x)cm[/tex]. Lets replace the values in our formula:
[tex][tex]A= \frac{1}{2} bh[/tex][/tex]
[tex]A= \frac{1}{2} [(3x)cm][(4x)cm][/tex]
[tex]A= \frac{(12x^2)cm^2}{2} [/tex]
[tex]A=(6x^2)cm^2[/tex]

We can conclude that the expression for the area of our flag is [tex]A=(6x^2)cm^2[/tex].
