[tex]( \frac{2}{3})( \frac{4}{1}) = \frac{8}{3} [/tex] cups of oil

The salad recipe needs [tex] \frac{1}{4} [/tex] cups of vinegar for every [tex] \frac{2}{3} [/tex] cup of oil.

Now we multiply both by 4

We get

The salad recipe needs [tex] 4(\frac{1}{4}) = 1 [/tex] cup of vinegar for [tex] 4 (\frac{2}{3} ) =\frac{8}{3} [/tex] cups of oil.

But [tex] \frac{8}{3} = 2\frac{2}{3} [/tex]

So for every 1 cup of vinegar we need [tex] 2\frac{2}{3} [/tex] cups of oil
