The United States had missiles in the country of Turkey. These provided an immediate threat to the Soviet Union, just like the missiles in Cuba were a threat to the United States. This shows how both the United States and Soviet Union helped to cause the Cuban Missile Crisis. This was the 13 day period that took place in October of 1962 was the closest the world ever came to all out nuclear warfare.
