The main differences exist in the motivation for the change. Planned change is usually thoroughly organized and planned with expected results and a high possibility of success if all the factors are accounted for. If the workers are also prepared for the change then there would be a higher chance of the plan's success with only minor alterations where needed.

Forced change or unplanned change is different insofar that it usually comes at a difficult time for a company and the results cannot be predicted so much since it is necessary to rapidly mend the issues that are bothering the company. Due to a lack of thorough planning, forced change can sometimes introduce even more problems and force the company to change even more or adapt or completely fail and go into bankruptcy or anything similar.
