The speed of a sound wave in seawater is approximately 1500m/s. If the wave is transmitted at 10ms-1, what is its wavelength? Answer in cm

Respuesta :

The wave travels at the speed of sound in water: [tex]v=1500 m/s[/tex].

The frequency of the wave is
[tex]10 ms^{-1} = 10000 s^{-1} = 10000 Hz[/tex]

so we can find its wavelength [tex]\lambda[/tex] by using the basic relationship between frequency, wavelength and speed of the wave:
[tex]\lambda= \frac{v}{f}= \frac{1500 m/s}{10000 Hz}=0.150 m = 15 cm [/tex]
