Where and when. a scoring rubric is used does not depend on the grade level or subject, but rather on the purpose of the assessment. Scoring rubrics are one of many alternatives available for evaluating student work. For example, checklists may be used. rather then scoring rubrics in the evaluation of writing samples.
The main purpose of a rubric is it's ability to assess student's performance or work. Rubrics can be tailored to each assignment or to the course to better assess the learning objectives.
