On Sunday, a local hamburger shop sold a combined total of 396 hamburgers and cheeseburgers. The number of cheeseburgers sold was three times the number of hamburgers sold. How many hamburgers were sold on Sunday?

if there are 396 total and there are 3 times more cheeseburgers, then split it so there are 4 parts (3 and the 1) and you will find that 396/4=99

(I think this is right, it makes sense in my mind)
